KARACHI: PA session starts today

KARACHI, April 3: The Sindh Assembly is meeting again on Wednesday (April 4) after a week in another requisitioned session. This will be the third consecutive requisitioned session which was summoned by Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah.

The joint opposition, after their requisitioned session was prorogued on March 28, without deliberations on the issues for which the House was requisitioned, submitted another requisition the very next day to the speaker to summon the session. In its request, the opposition mentioned the same issues that were raised in its two earlier requisitions.

In addition to issues like price hike, law and order situation, the opposition specifically wanted to discuss the issue of NA-250 and PS-71 by-elections. Another issue the opposition wanted to discuss is Shazia Marri’s privilege motion against the chief minister’s remarks about women in politics.

However, as the PPP leadership and MPAs had gone to Larkana to pay homage to party founder and chairman late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, it was unlikely to be in time if the practice of onus of completing the quorum lies on the party which initiated the session, was followed. The PPP MPAs are not likely to return from Larkana where they are attending Mr Bhutto’s death anniversary. Functions to observe the anniversary started on April 3 and will continue till the morning of April 4 .

Mr Khuhro, talking to Dawn from Larkana, criticised the Speaker for summoning the session on the fifth day after receiving the requisition contrary to his practice of summoning the House on 13th or 14th day.
