KARACHI, March 29: Host Karachi Club ‘Greens’ beat Hyderabad Gymkhana on aggregate points 10-9 after being tied 2-2 in the All Pakistan Inter-Club tennis tournament on Wednesday night.

The KC ‘G’ was in hot waters following a poor start when they lost the opening two matches to the visitors. Saleem Siddiqui went down to Taimoor Iftikhar 2-6, 4-6 in men singles while Asad Ali Bhagat/Ali Hasan Bhagat tasted 4-6, 3-6 defeat at the hands of Rafi Darbari/Saad Baloch in the men doubles.

However, the KC stormed back by restoring parity claiming both the 45 doubles matches. Altaf Hussain/Karim Gul Aga beat Munir Memon/Suhail Ahmed 6-0, 6-0 while Zahid Hussain/Asif Ismail got the better of Zulfiqar Yousuf Zai/Aslam 6-0,6-0.

After a tie, the KC ‘G’ was declared winner on points calculated on the basis of set scores.

The KC ‘Blues’ defeated Avari Towers 3-0 thanks to two walkovers. Aamir Dervash whipped Nameer Shamsi 7-5 6-2 to win juniors U-17 singles. Hammad Nadeem got a walkover against Nomi Qamar in the men singles followed by another walkover in favour of Aamir/Rabia against Nomi/Ayesha in the mixed doubles.

The rules framed by organisers provide option to clubs to field teams in four out of seven events in a match. However, they were violated in the case of KC ‘B’ and Avari Towers match.
