OKARA, Sept 30: Police have arrested the two alleged killers who had strangled a widow and her six children in Basti Islamabad, Kot Sher Khan, Basirpur, some 60 km from here.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, SSP Capt Muhammad Amin (retired) said both the arrested outlaws had confessed to their crime.

He said Anwar Bibi, the wife of Rehmat Ali cobbler, had migrated to Basirpur along with her children two-and-a-half-year ago after the death of her husband in Mouza Mujahid Bheeni.

She had two brothers Amin and Ali Sher who owned 11 acres of agriculture land. About five years ago Amin had married his daughter Khalida to Allah Ditta, 12, the son of Anwar Bibi.

Meanwhile, accused Iftikhar Macchi of the same village tried to develop relations with Khalida as he was a frequent visitor to the house of Anwar Bibi. Later, Iftikhar along with his friend Akbar Muslim planned to kill the whole family. On Thursday night, they went to the house of Anwar Bibi with some sedative tablets bought from a dispenser. They mixed it with sweets which was served to the family after dinner. As a result, Anwar Bibi and her six children fell unconscious who were later strangled by accused Iftikhar and Akbar. Infant Nadia was the only survivor of the family. They escaped with 10 tolas of silver and half a tola of jewellery. Police suspected that they also raped the widow.
