BNP-M leaders to meet on April 7

QUETTA, March 26: The executive committee of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal will meet here on April 7 to discuss the domestic and international political situation, especially the Balochistan issue, besides organisational matters.

The meeting was convened by the party’s secretary-general Habib Jalib Baloch, a statement issued here on Monday stated.

The party’s executive committee would be meeting for the first time after a crackdown on its leaders and activists on November 30. The party accuses the government of detaining several hundred activists to stop a proposed protest rally from Gwadar.

While most of the arrested party members were released following bail granted by courts or freed by the government, the party’s chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal is still in a Karachi jail, facing a case in an anti-terrorism court.
