LAHORE, March 25: Long shot bay filly Dil Vil edged out favourite colt Headingley by three-fourth of a length to win the Jhelum Cup during the Lahore Winter meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Javed Khalid and trained by Iqbal Nawab, Dil Vil was piloted by M. Zeeshan.

Sodagar and Quince completed the frame among seven runners.

Gone over 1200 metres, it was sixth race of the day. It was a closely contested one with first three runners finishing within one-and-a-half lengths.

The winner later survived an objection lodged by jockey Shahid Rehman, the rider of second-placed Headingley, for pressing and crossing near the 300 metres post. The objection was overruled.

A race earlier, hot-favourite filly Tropical steered by jockey Shahid Rehman flew home to annex the Nero's Dream Cup, went over the distance of 1200 metres.

The winner beat Red Hot Fire by five lengths. Miss Photogenic and Trump Coup completed the board among nine runners.

Jockeys Shahid Rehman and Salahuddin highlighted the day's racing by bringing home brace of winners.

The former rode Royal Fish and Tropical in the third and fifth race while the latter piloted Speed Demon and Chill in the second and fourth race.

The most impressive winner of the afternoon was filly Chill, who came from behind to win the fourth race by six lengths from Harry Can Run.

War Admiral and Desert Queen completed the frame.

Lahore Race Club stewards cancelled the opener due to paucity of required number of runners after declaration of riders in the morning. The card then reduced to six events.
