OKARA, March 24: The Punjab Home Department has withdrawn the detention orders of district PPP president MPA Ashraf Sohna.

The department had issued 300 days detention orders of Mr Sohna about five days ago. He challenged his detention and the Lahore High Court ordered the home department to produce record of the case on March 27.

But on Saturday afternoon, the home department withdrew the detention orders and faxed it to the superintendent of Bahawalpur central jail for Mr Sohna’s release.

It may be recalled that Mr Sohna had already been granted bail in three cases registered against him under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, under MPO 16 and Section 186 PPC.

It is learnt that the district police were contemplating some other tactics to keep Mr Sohna in confinement.

Meanwhile, the Okara police have left for Bahawalpur to take him into custody.
