KARACHI, March 22: Sindh Chief Secretary Shakil Durrani has stressed the need for better liaison and strengthening of working relationship among relevant departments and institutions.

Reviewing the law and order situation at a meeting held here, the chief secretary emphasised the need for police to perform its role more efficiently to get convictions from courts so as to curb street crime.

Referring to the statistics about street crimes, the chief secretary reiterated the conviction process should be strengthened to get a higher conviction rate so that crimes were effectively controlled.

Shakil Durrani called for pursuing a coordinated strategy by the home, law, prosecution and police departments so that an improved law and order was ensured keeping the demands of justice in view.

At the meeting emphasis was laid on all-out security measures on the occasion of Pakistan Day and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

The DCO of Karachi told the meeting about the CDGK’s performance regarding cleaning of traditional routes of Eid Milad processions and carpeting of roads wherever required.

The DIG (Operation) of Karachi gave a briefing on the security arrangements and highlighted the salient features of the security plan while the DIG for traffic explained the traffic arrangements for the occasion.

The chief secretary said all departments would have to remain alert to celebrate Eid Mild-un-Nabi with religious sanctity.

Home Secretary Ghulam Mohammed Mohtaram, PPO Sindh Jehangir Mirza, and others attended the meeting.—APP
