HYDERABAD, March 21: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) on Wednesday appealed to chief minister, chief secretary and secretary of education to order release of salaries of the newly promoted assistant professors of Hyderabad.

An SPLA meeting chaired by Prof Mohammad Yaqoob Chandio criticised the Sindh Education Department for delay in payment of salaries to the recently promoted assistant professors of Hyderabad and victimization of the association’s office-bearers and college teachers

The meeting expressed surprise that the newly promoted assistant professors had been paid salaries in Karachi and other districts but only in Hyderabad the assistant professors had still been waiting for their salaries.

The meeting demanded withdrawal of suspension orders of Prof Nazeer Pathan, Tariq Mansoor Qureshi and Niaz Panhwar and called for confirming ad hoc lecturers like the NWFP and Balochistan.

The meeting also criticised attack on a private TV channel and lawyers’ convention in Lahore.

DEMO AGAINST VC: Activists of Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF) staged a demonstration outside the press club on Wednesday demanding removal of the vice-chancellor of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology.

The party leaders Habib Sindhi Mushtaq Soomro and Sono Khan Lashari demanded inquiry against the vice-chancellor who they alleged had destroyed the university.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATES: The chairperson department of English University of Sindh on Wednesday informed the students who had clinched first class in M.A English to contact the department by April 10 to work as research associates.

Meanwhile, the the university’s director of admissions extended date for admission to the second year of MBA evening programme to March 26.
