KU cagers earn third place

KARACHI, March 19: Punjab University won the Inter-university basketball championship when they notched up 70-61 victory over Peshawar University in the final played at Sargodha the other day.

Haris Kamal (18) and Abdul Rehman (14) were instrumental in their team’s triumph which led 43-33 at half time. Saqib Waheed and Atif Nawaz were outstanding for losers contributing 18 and 16 points.

A late recovery by Karachi University helped them edge past Greenwich University 41-33 in the playoff to secure third place.

The KU who trailed 23-24 in the third quarter stormed back to turn the tables on opponents. They added 18 to their tally as against 9 scored by their opponent’s in the last quarter.

Asad Iqbal emerged top scorer for KU with 12 – all three pointers with three of them coming in the last quarter. Shabbar (10) and Adnan (8) were the other scorers. Ali Ahmed and Danyal scored 12 and 7 for losers.
