LARKANA, Oct 19: Despite ending the strike of the sanitary staff by paying their salaries, the Larkana district government has failed to improve the sanitary condition in the city as majority of roads and lanes are still submerged under sewage water.

VIP Road, Lahori Road, Fish Market, Jiles Bazaar, Bakrani Road and Massan Road are the worst affected areas.

The new municipal administration has virtually failed to address the issue of sanitation, sources said adding that it was in fix because most of the pumping machines installed were out of order and few working machines could not drain out drainage water from the city.

Major trade centres of the city including Resham Gali, Jiles Bazaar, Fruit Market and Fish Market areas are flooded with stagnant water which is not only causing problems for vehicular traffic and pedestrians but is also damaging houses.

Talking to this correspondent, some NGO activists apprehended if the situation persisted it could lead to the outbreak of diseases in the city and demanded early improvement.

SHOT DEAD: Four unknown persons late Thursday night shot dead a man in Warah town and escaped.

The victim was identified as Mushtaque Chandio.

The murder was the outcome of old enmity, police sources said.

SHO HELD: The SHO of Waleed police station and a police head constable were arrested for allegedly taking bribe from the owners of wagons running on Larkana-Mirokhan route.

The wagon owners had complained against the SHO, Ghulam Shabir Sarki, for allegedly extorting money.

The SHO sub-inspector has been reverted to the post of ASI.
