ISLAMABAD, March 14: The second meeting of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Jirga Commission will be held in Kabul from April 8 to11. A joint declaration issued on Wednesday after the first meeting of the commission said the Peace Jirga Commission of Afghanistan led by Pir Sayed Ahmad Gailani and Pakistan’s side led by Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao had reaffirmed their resolve to hold Jirgas as one of the measures to counter terrorism.

The chairman of the Pakistan Jirga Commission said the country had no tradition of Jirga at the national level. He conveyed to the Afghan side that Pakistan would constitute an appropriate Jirga.

The chairman of the Afghan commission said his country would have broad national participation in the Jirga.

The two commissions agreed to work for promoting peace on the basis of mutual respect for each nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Sherpao rejected Kabul’s objection to fencing parts of the disputed border between the two countries.
