LAHORE, Feb 22: Governor Khalid Maqbool said on Friday that besides the government, people would have to play their role in eliminating the drug menace.

He was talking to prayer-goers after offering Juma prayers at Jamia Masjid Noor, Nisbet Road. The governor reached the mosque without his routine protocol. The prayer leader offered him to lead the prayers which he politely declined.

The governor said: “We are to educate our children and create awareness among them so that they can become useful citizens and are not addicted to drugs.”

He assured the people that steps would be taken to eliminate the drug trafficking in Royal Park, Lakshmi Chowk and other localities of the city.

A prayer-goer drew the attention of the governor towards obscene film hoardings. Upon it, he said he would personally look into the matter.

He said people must also discourage those spreading obscenity.

A former professor of the Government College, Lahore, apprised him of the worst condition of libraries in the city. The governor said special attention was being paid to educate the people and a comprehensive policy would be formulated to improve the condition of libraries.

Earlier, the governor inquired about the problems of the people and donated some money for the mosque. He also inquired about the qualification of teachers of the seminary and sought details of the syllabus for students.
