HYDERABAD, March 5: Leaders of Tanzeem-i-Asatiza Pakistan (Women) have demanded raise in salaries and allowances of teachers serving in remote and underdeveloped areas of the province on the pattern of incentives announced by the government for doctors and paramedical staff.

Addressing a news conference at the press club on Sunday TAP President Ms Najamus Sehr, General Secretary Ms Iffat Shahid and Sindh President Ms Farkhanda Akhtar urged the government to issue appointment letters to the teachers who had passed written and oral tests three years ago.

They called for posting female teachers in the schools nearest to their homes and regularising ad hoc and contractual teachers.

They claimed that majority of secondary school teachers in Sindh possessed degrees equivalent to those of college teachers still the department had been denying them teaching allowance.

The leaders demanded teaching allowance for the trained teachers and called for computerising all the service record of female teachers including ACRs and GP fund. They had to go to different offices and offer bribes to get their record completed, they charged.

They welcomed the Sindh governor’s decision to hold examinations for class-IX and X separately and expressed the hope that the order would also be applicable to class-XI and XII examinations.

They urged the federal minister for education to order to hold examinations for class-IX, X, XI and XII separately in all the four provinces.

They deplored the fact that this International Women’s Day on March 8, too, would see no visible change in the social structure as far as fair sex was concerned. No conscientious efforts were being made to solve their problems, they said.

The leaders appreciated the government efforts to increase literacy rate by introducing free education up to matriculation level, scholarships for students and distribution of books free of cost.
