ISLAMABAD, March 4: A PPP spokesperson on Sunday thanked MMA chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan for requesting the PPP chairperson to attend the PML-N’s multi-party conference, but said Benazir Bhutto would not attend the London meeting. In a statement issued here, he said a PPP team would attend the meeting instead, and its attendance was part of a compromise formula that had been worked out between the two parties.

The team, he said, would be directly nominated by Ms Bhutto.

According to the statement, both the parties were working on a joint draft resolution for the success of the PML-N-sponsored conference. But, because of the PPP’s policy of, among other reasons, not sharing a platform with members of the present regime, the chairperson would not be attending the London meeting.

As a concession to the PML-N, which announced the holding of the conference without first obtaining the PPP’s consent, the PPP had decided to send its delegation to attend the conference, he said.
