GUJRANWALA, March 3: The Education Department notified on Saturday the appointment of senior PTC teachers as headmasters and headmistresses in public primary schools for boys and girls. Few months ago, the department appointed English teachers as headmasters but senior PTC senior teachers opposed the move and demanded that they be made heads of schools.

English teachers were deputed headmasters in 1,250 schools on the order of the Punjab education secretary in the district.

TRANSFER: Additional Inspector General of Police Malik Muhammad Iqbal has transferred 293 police officers of Range No 2 from their home districts to other districts on Saturday.

Five inspectors from Sialkot were transferred to Gujrat, Narowal and Hafizabad district, seven from Gujrat to Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin, two from Mandi Bahauddin to Hafizabad and Gujrat and one each from Narowal and Hafizabad to Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin.

INQUIRY: The city district government has ordered an inquiry against a naib tehsildar in Wazirabad after revenue patwaris protested against him. Patwaris alleged that the naib tehsildar had demanded bribe for transferring agricultural land and property. At a meeting held here with Anjuman Patwarian president Irshadullah in chair, they alleged the official had asked each revenue patwari to pay him Rs1,000 for transfer of agricultural land and property.

BY-POLL: By-election for nazim of union council No 73 will be held on March 5 (Monday). The seat fell vacant when nazim Hamid Hussain was murdered by his rivals over enmity. Polling will continue from 8am to 5pm without any break. Nine candidates, including the brother of slain nazim, are contesting the election. The number of voters is 7,384 and the union council comprises Navid Colony, Qila Sunder Singh, Grid Station and Naushera Sansi.
