KARACHI, March 3: A delegation led by parliamentary leader of Mutthiada Majlis-i-Amal in Sindh Assembly Maulana Omar Sadiq called on City Nazim Mustafa Kamal at his office on Saturday and discussed issues being faced by the residents of Baldia Town.

According to a city government press release, the delegation appreciated the low-cost housing schemes of Hawksbay and Taisar Town and pointed out some issues which needed to be resolved immediately.

The nazim listened to their grievances and assured them that he would resolve the issues on priority basis.

“We are serving citizens without any discrimination and granted funds to all towns and union councils on equality basis.

The city government is spending Rs800 million only in Lyari Town, including Rs280 million to lay a new waterline to provide 6mgd water,” he informed the delegation.

Besides, he said, the work was also in progress to lay a water line in Baldia.

About anti-encroachment operation, the nazim said the drive was not targeting any particular area. It started from New Karachi and Liaquatabad areas, which are considered as strongholds of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, he added.

The city nazim emphasised that illegal establishments on storm water drains and sewerage lines should be removed to pave way for the development projects.

He also underlined the need of joint efforts for removal of encroachment in Baldia.

Mr Kamal assured the delegation that the master plan would be prepared with the consensus of all public representatives.

He said the 20-year-old Hawksbay and Taiser Town schemes were revived on governor’s directives and 150,000 people had been given plots so far.

CALL CENTRE: Meanwhile, more than 9,000 candidates appeared in the written test, conducted by the city government literacy department, for 2,000 seats of call centre training programme.
