Seven killed, as many hurt on road

VEHARI, Feb 21: Five car riders were killed on Thursday in an accident on the Vehari-Burewala Road near Pakhi Morr stop, some 10 kilometres from here.

The speeding car (8908-LOM) going to Burewala from Vehari crashed into a bus (LXP-5664) while saving a donkey cart. Consequently, Anwar Javed, Anjum Iqbal, Mukhtar Ahmad, Ghulam Rasool and Abdul Shakoor died on the spot. The bus driver managed to escape.

Relevant police are looking into the matter.

Meanwhile, two women were killed and seven others received injuries in another mishap on the GT Road near Mian Channu late Wednesday night.

A speeding bus (31-LSC) was on its way to Mian Channu from Lahore. Near Mian Channu, the bus knocked down the people sitting along the road, killing Hajiran Bibi and Naziran Bibi instantly and injuring seven others. The injured Mohdi Bibi, Sayan Bibi, Ghulam Farid, Aslam, Hamanyun Khan, Allah Bukhsh and Mehram Khan were admitted to a local hospital. The driver made good his escape.
