TOBA TEK SINGH, March 1: District naib nazim Chaudhry Sultan Ahmad resigned from his office on Thursday reportedly under a decision taken at a meeting held a few days ago at the Chief Minister’s House in Lahore.

Sources said the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, National Security council secretary Tariq Aziz and Inteligence Bureau chief Brig Ijaz Hussain Shah (retired).

The meeting was also attended by District Nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar and his group members MNA Riaz Fatyana and Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman, besides former district nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq and his allies MNA Mian Farhan Latif, MNA Choudry Amjad Warraich, MPA Choudry Bilal Warraich and MPA Brig Javed Akram (retired), the sources said.

At the meeting, it was decided that Chaudhry Sultan Ahmad would resign from his office and the slot would be given to a nominee of Chaudhry Ashfaq, the sources said.

The sources said the decision was disclosed to the local cadre of the ruling PML at a meeting held in the district council rest house where the district nazim explained that it was unanimously taken at the Lahore meeting.

Some of the party members refused to accept the decision terming it undemocratic, they added.

According to the sources, the naib nazim slot would either be given to MNA Choudry Amjad Warraich’s brother-in-law Choudry Sajjad Sohal, a Gojra union council nazim, or a Pirmahal UC nazim Chaudhry Khalid Sardar, who belonged to PML-N, but would later join the ruling party.
