LARKANA, Feb 21: The Larkana District Alliance (LDA) was formed here at a meeting of different political and social conglomerates on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, chief of the Sindh National Front (SNF).
Mr Bhutto in his speech claimed that whatever he had said from the platform of the Sindhi Baloch Pashtoon Front and SNF 16 years ago had proved correct. The leaders throughout the country were now demanding provincial rights.
He proposed to constitute a shadow district council in Larkana with the aim to keep vigil over the exiting district council and likewise the same shadow councils be set up at the taluka level to check the new system.
TAX RATES: The water rate, local and drainage tax would not be recovered from the growers, holding up to four acres in the district, except orchard owners.
This was disclosed by the district coordination officer (DCO), Larkana, Mohammed Hashim Leghari, at a meeting of the revenue officers here on Thursday. He directed them to computerize the revenue record of the district.
He said, for the paddy crop, the tax rate was Rs119.78 per acre, Rs173.14 per acre would be recovered from the orchard owners falling in the limits of the Warah canal, Dadu canal, Safiullah Magsi canal and the Khairthar canal, while Rs119.05 per acre would be recovered from the growers in the Rice canals command area.
The DCO said that Rs212.85 and Rs132.25 per acre would respectively be recovered as sugar-cane tax being grown on Warah, Dadu, Saifullah Mahsi and Khirthar canals. Similarly, Rs70.22 per acre would be recovered from the growers growing other crops in the district during the Kharif season.
ARRESTED: In a drive against criminals and their harbourers, the Larkana police have arrested 14 dacoits and their accomplices.
Those arrested included Zulfikar Dahani, against whom 33 cases of heinous nature were registered in Larkana and Khairpur districts, Sabir Malano, Jabir Shart, Shaukat Kori, Zamiur alias Khuda Bakhsh Shar, Peeral Mirbahar, Mumtaz Shaikh, Dilbar Jatoi, Ghulam Fareed Jatoi, Ashique Jatoi, Muhkoo Jatoi and Basheer Bhutto.
The police claimed that one Kalashnikov, 11 shot guns, eight pistols, one revolver, one rifle and cartridges had been recovered from their possession.
