PESHAWAR, Feb 27: The NWFP Population Welfare Department is establishing family welfare centres at district level to provide reproductive health services to women, officials said.

“Three reproductive health services centres would be established by the population welfare department in the basic health units in every district,” said an official.

For this purpose, a technical committee comprising officials of the health and population departments had been formed, he said.

The decision to establish the reproduce health services centres was made at a meeting of the committee, he said.

The executive district officers (EDOs), health and population welfare officers in the respective districts would pinpoint the appropriate health centres for the establishment of these centres, he said.

The performance of these centres would be monitored jointly by the officials of the health and population welfare departments at the district level. Attendance of the staff would be checked on daily basis, he said.

Only district population officers in these districts would be entitled to grant leave to the staff of these centres on prior information by the employees, he added.

To provide better facilities to the women at these centres, the official said that 10 women medical officers would be imparted necessary training at the provincial health services academy, who later be providing training to the staff of these centres on the matters relating to reproductive health.

The population welfare department, official said, would nominate medical officers one month before the commencement of the training.

The official said the committee had also decided to ensure a system through which these centres are supplied with drugs regularly.

The committee recommended to the health department to blacklist the companies for their failure to ensure timely supply of drugs to centres, the official said.

The centres would provide information and treatment to the people visiting these outlets for reproductive and family planning services.

A quality assurance board, official said, had already been established.
