HYDERABAD, Feb 27: The sacked employees of the Zarai Taraqiyati Bank of Pakistan have said that their retrenchment is illegal, inhuman and immoral and appealed to the president and prime minister and the Supreme Court to order their reinstatement.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Tuesday, the representatives of the retrenched employees, Sardar Shah, Rasheed Ahmed Babbur and others, said that the services of 1,850 bank employees were terminated two days ago through an advertisement in the newspapers.

They said that the bank employees had not been served with any notice in advance and the advertisement had come like a bolt from the blue for them.

They said that the dismissal of employees had affected 1,850 families which had been deprived of their only source of livelihood.

They said that the sacked employees had been serving the bank for 20 years and 250 of them belonged to the Sindh province.

They threatened to stage a series of protest demonstrations and seek remedy from the court of law.

Answering a question, they said that the employees had neither been given golden handshake nor gratuity.

SUGHARS: A group of Sughars (exponents of folk wisdom) under the banner of the Sindh Sujan Sughar Lok Adab Tanzeem staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Tuesday against their exclusion from the Sughar Kutchehry being organized during the annual Urs of Sufi saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

Talking to journalists, Haji Rahim Bux Qureshi, Mumtaz Saniyasi, Miandad Selani and others said that as the coordinator of the gathering, Salahuddin Panhwar, had nothing to do with folk culture, he had ignored senior Sughars.

They threatened to stage a protest demonstration on the occasion of the Urs celebrations.

LAND GRABBING: A resident of Sita Road town, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka, Dadu district, Imdad Ali Chandio, has alleged that land grabbers have occupied his plot admeasuring 6478 square feet.

He told a news conference at the press club on Tuesday that he had the documents to prove his ownership of the said plot. He said that the land grabbers had also tried to implicate him in a case by filing an FIR against him which had proved to be a concocted one.

He said that he had submitted applications to the authorities concerned but to no avail.

He alleged that several criminal cases were registered against the land grabbers at different police stations of Dadu district.

He appealed to the authorities to take notice of the activities of the land grabbers and provide him justice.

LUMHS: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Tuesday announced the results of final professional MBBS (old course) annual examinations 2006 of the LUMHS and the Nawabshah Medical College for girls.

It also announced the results of postgraduate Diploma in Ophthalmology examinations 2006.
