HYDERABAD, Feb 21: The Hyderabad District Council adopted several resolutions on Wednesday, calling for regularization of the kutcha abadis in the district, distribution of lands among landless haris and provision of Sui gas.

The resolution moved by Dr Abdul Aziz Gaddi related to regularization of kutcha abadis. He said that in Hyderabad city, out of 103 kutcha abadis, 93 had been regularized but the remaining eleven were still pending on account to stubbornness of different government departments.

He said that the railway department was the biggest hurdle in the way of regularization of kutcha abadis of the American quarters and barracks as it was not ready to surrender its lands to the city council although the receipt of entitlement right had been given to the residents.

Rana Mehmood Ali Khan told the house that even the court had restrained the railway authorities from deducting house rent of residents, living in abadis, located on the land of the railway department in the American quarters and barracks.

Minority member M. Parkash said that the minority members should not be neglected when these abadis were regularized.

The resolution was referred to the sub-committee of the house on kutcha abadis to make amendments pointed out by other members with regard to problems of such abadis in their respective areas.

Ghulam Hyder Khoso in his resolution demanded that the government land should be distributed among the landless haris.

The members said that successive governments made claims about distribution of such lands but these promises were never fulfilled apart from those cases in which lands were given because of political likes and dislikes.

He said that the growers were facing difficulties because of water shortage.

The members were of the view that problems of forests should also be resolved as some mafia was occupying the forests.

The EDO (Law), Ashfaque Ahmed, informed the house that the matter pertaining to the Chambar Cattle Bazaar could not be discussed in the house as it was pending disposal in a court of law.

The matter was referred to the EDO after the house witnessed an uproar over the issue of the cattle bazaar, organized in the Chambar UC.
