KARACHI: Promote paper bags

Published February 28, 2007

KARACHI, Feb 27: The preparation, sale and use of polythene bags must be shunned voluntarily and paper bags be promoted.

This was stressed by the Sindh Minister for Environment, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, while chairing a meeting held here on Tuesday.

He made it clear that the aim was not to render those preparing plastic bags, jobless. Instead, he explained, the effort is to help check environmental degradation caused by the polythene bags. The minister said that we wanted those engaged in this business to opt for making paper bags.—APP
