ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Local Bodies and Rural Development has directed Wapda to immediately take back its recent decision to increase electricity rates by 10 per cent and also asked the government to cut the Sui Gas tariff for domestic consumers, bringing it at par with industrial consumers.

The Standing Committee’s meeting was held here on Monday at the Parliament House, under the chairmanship of Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani.

The meeting was also attended by MNAs Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad Jat, Maulana Miraj uddin, Maulana Bakhtiar, Malik Liaqat Ali Dogar and Begum Ashraf.

Senior officers of the Public Works Department (PWD), Ministry of Local Bodies and Rural Development, Wapda and Sui Gas were also present during the meeting.

The Standing Committee has also directed the concerned departments to complete the construction work on the G.T. Road between Nowshera and Peshawar.

The Committee has directed the Sui Gas department to provide gas to certain areas of Nowshera and the adjoining areas of Gujar Khan.

The Committee has also approved the formation of a sub- committee, under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Nazeer Ahmad Jat, for reviewing the development projects of Wapda and other departments in Multan.—Online
