MOSCOW, Feb 21: The Russian interior ministry said on Thursday it had opened an investigation into reports that a former Soviet air force officer may have supplied weapons to the Al Qaeda network in Afghanistan.

An inquiry into the alleged arms deals conducted by Viktor Bout was ordered by Deputy Interior Minister Nikolai Bobrovsky, Interfax quoted a ministry spokesman as saying.—AFP
