ST JOHN’S (Antigua), Feb 23: A captivating and colourful showcase of the Caribbeans’ diverse culture will be highlight of the opening ceremony for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Scenes representative of the vibrant lifestyle, heritage of the region will unfold on the stage at the March 11 celebration to welcome the world to the mega contest - starting with the medley of calypso, dancehall, mento, reggae, ska, soca and musical genres.

The presentation at Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium in Jamaica includes dance sequences, stilt walkers enacting cricket match, mass choir and fire blowers. There will be drum score by visiting troop from South Africa, symbolising link between the previous World Cup and this year's event.

“Everyone is working hard to make this a successful and unforgettable start to the World Cup. It will be a fusion of the Caribbean talent, traditions, ethnicities and tribute to rich cultures of the host venues and the region as a whole,” said the event manager for the opening ceremony, Martin Lewis.

“It will be the first taste of the World Cup the world receives. We want to convey creative, warm spirit of our people and show them what they can expect for two months that they are our guests.” –Agencies
