Clijsters to skip French Open

ANTWERP (Belgium), Feb 19: Kim Clijsters confirmed on Sunday that she will skip the French Open and concentrate her efforts on Wimbledon as the Belgian counts down to the end of her career.

“I confirm that more than likely I will not play Roland Garros,” said the former world number one after losing the Antwerp final to Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo.

“The clay court season is very long and is physically demanding. For my last year on the circuit, I want to concentrate on Wimbledon. To start the tournament at the peak of my form, I need to be sufficiently rested.”—AFP
