Abolition of two bodies sought

Published February 20, 2007

SWABI, Feb 19: The district council on Monday demanded that the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and Basic Education and Employable Skill Training (BEST), an NGO, should be abolished as they had failed to work for people and wasted funds.

Members of the council said that the two bodies did not work according to the policy and had failed to improve the public service delivery mechanism.

They criticised the Zakat distribution system and demanded that Zakat committees should also be immediately abolished because of the alleged involvement of its members in corrupt practices. They said that deserving people did not get Zakat and only the people affiliated with certain religious parties were made eligible for the financial help.

They said that the names of Zakat recipients should be displayed in local mosques so that every body learnt about its disbursement.

They expressed concern over what they called ‘illegal’ appointments and transfers in various government departments.
