Report sought on police excesses

Published February 18, 2007

LAHORE, Feb 17: The Lahore High Court on Saturday sought a report from the Kasur DPO on a case of alleged police highhandedness.

Seeking the report and detailed comments by Feb 20, the court ordered the DPO also explain as to what action he had taken against police officials against whom petitioner Waris Ali had filed several applications.

The petitioner had approached the court for quashment of a case registered with Sara-i-Mughal police on Feb 3.

The petitioner contended that he had filed a complaint against SHO Haji Qasim and some other officials for destroying evidence of a theft case. He added his complaint against the police had become a source of victimisation against him.

Just to teach him a lesson, he added, the police had implicated him in two cases.
