SIALKOT, Feb 12: A professor of Government Polytechnic Institute’s English subject was shot dead on resistance during a robbery at a picket established by bandits near Jaspal village on Monday.

Reports said that Prof Attiqur Rehman Bajwa was on way to the college by his motorcycle from Bhaagowal village when armed robbers, who were already busy looting passersby, intercepted him as well.

On offering resistance, the gangsters opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. Later, the robbers-cum-killers escaped while firing in the air.

The news of the professor’s murder spread like a wildfire and students and teachers of the college gathered on Paris Road and held a demonstration amid light rain. They began the rally from their college and ended it at the DPO office where participants damaged some window grills. Carrying banners and placards, the protesters also shouted slogans against the police.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after Additional SP Dr Akhtar Abbas and the SP (investigation) held out assurance to them that killers would be arrested within three days.

Sialkot Saddar police have registered a case.

LECTURE: A lecture on “Structure of international financial stability” was mutually organized by the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Sialkot Bankers Club at the SCCI here on Monday.
