KARACHI, Feb 9: Centuries by skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Ijaz Ahmed Junior helped Faisalabad take a huge first-innings lead of 197 runs over Karachi Harbour on the penultimate day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League match at the National Stadium here on Friday.

Misbah hit 184 and the 38-year-old Ijaz, who like Misbah is a former Test player, struck 159 as Faisalabad declared at 563 for seven in reply to Karachi Harbour’s 366.

On a day when the game was stopped twice for rain which resulted in 15 overs play lost, the home side closed at 15 for no loss in their second innings.

The 32-year-old Misbah completed his 23rd first-class after resuming at his overnight score of 91 while adding 257 in 362 balls for the fourth wicket with Ijaz in 226 minutes. His 363-ball innings in 437 minutes contained 22 fours and a brace of sixes.

Ijaz’ 159 – his 29th hundred in first-class cricket – off 189 deliveries in 232 minutes included 21 fours and three sixes before he provided Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria with his first wicket of the innings.

Kaneria, captaining Karachi Harbour, later dismissed Imran Khalid to finish with a disappointing two for 137 in 43.4 overs. Off-spinner Atif Maqbool claimed three for 135 while young pacer Uzair-ul-Haq took two for 114.
