GUJRAT, Feb 9: An expatriate was reportedly kidnapped for ransom from near Sarai Alamgir on Friday.

Reports said that Pir Ghulam Rasool of Bhagnagar, who came from England recently, along with his friends Liaquat and Akhtar alias Saeen, was on his way to Head Jaggu by a rented car. Near their destination, three unidentified armed men intercepted the car and got on to it.

The culprits took them to the deserted outhouse of Raja Masood Sarwer at Baisa Chowk. From there, they threw Liaquat and Akhtar out of the car and took away the expatriate with them to Buttar village. After leaving the vehicle at the village, they kidnapped Ghulam Rasool and left for some unknown destination. As of now, the kidnappers have demanded no ransom.

No case has so far been lodged with the police.

Meanwhile, Kharian circle police failed to find any clue to culprits who had set free an office superintendent of the Supreme Court after kidnapping him for ransom some 10 days back.

Reports said that four gunmen had intercepted the car (LWN-3202) of Tariq Bashir near Pind Aziz and snatched cash and other valuables from him and his three associates.

Later, they kidnapped Bashir for ransom in his own car. The police later recovered the abandoned car from near Manglia. The kidnappers had demanded Rs20 million ransom for his release, but the amount was settled at Rs0.4 million.

The kidnappers asked the victim’s family to keep the amount in a car and leave it at a place near Kharian. Police sources said that the family hired a car (JME-56), kept the amount in it and left the vehicle at the designated spot.

From there, four kidnappers and the victim boarded the rented car and went towards Kotla Arab Ali Khan. However, the rashly-driven vehicle overturned near Kotla and the kidnappers had to escape, leaving behind the ransom amount and their five Kalashnikovs.

When contacted, Kharian DSP Raja Zafar was not present in his office. It may be mentioned that two kidnap for ransom incidents have occurred in the jurisdiction of Sarai Alamgir during the last 10 days.
