KARACHI, Feb 8: Relegated to group II, Pakistan launch their 2007 Asia Oceania Zone Davis Cup campaign when they take on the Philippines in the first round away tie at Rizal Memorial Tennis Centre in Manila on Friday.

In the three other matches of the same group which also begin from Friday, New Zealand are drawn to meet Pacific Oceania, Kuwait meet Iran and Hong Kong will be up against Indonesia.

According to draws, Jalil Khan face Cecil Mamit in the opening singles while his elder brother Aqeel will be pitted against Eric Taino in the second singles.

In doubles, the pair of Aqeel – Asim Shafik will square up against Johnny Arcilla – Patrick-John Tierro.

In the reverse singles, Aqeel is drawn to meet Mamit while Jalil will come across against Taino.

Yasir Khan is the fourth member of the team which is captained by veteran Davis Cupper Hameedul Haq.

Aisamul Haq has expressed his inability to accompany the team.

Promoted to group II, the Philippines lead 2-1 against Pakistan having won both ties at home in 1950 and 1975 besides losing at Lahore in 1974.
