KASUR, Feb 6: Police aborted on Tuesday a bid to rob Rs400,000 from the TMA office here. Police said four gunmen took away Rs400,000 in cash meant for staff salaries from the TMA office.

In the meanwhile, a police party reached there and chased the robbers who were on motorcycles. They opened fire on the police party which was retaliated. The police succeeded to arrest two robbers after a brief crossfire and recovered the money.

Police have also arrested a TMA employee on suspicion of collusion with the felons. They refused to reveal his identity.

ARRESTED: A son and a nephew of a police sub-inspector who allegedly shot dead a man in a robbery bid were arrested here on Tuesday.

Accused Shahbaz and Kashif and accomplices had shot dead Jamil on Monday night and threw his body in fields in the limits of Raja Jang police station.

The Kasur DPO constituted a team headed by the Saddar DSP which arrested Shahbaz and Kashif, the son and nephew respectively, of SI Sharif posted at the same police station where the incident took place.

SHOT DEAD: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a man near Wali Hospital in the Saddar police limits. Ghulam Rasool was on his way home with his wife after having dinner from a restaurant on Monday night. The gunmen intercepted them near Wali Hospital and shot at Ghulam Rasool and escaped without looting anything including motorcycle and jewellery from his wife. — Correspondent
