No let-up in robberies, thefts

LAHORE, Feb 5: Robbers and thieves struck 14 times and made off with cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees here on Monday.

Police said some robbers set up a picket near Janazgah in Moeen Town, Harbanspura, and started looting passers-by. They snatched Rs6,000 in cash, six gold bangles and four rings from Akbar and his wife, cash and a cell phone from Bashir and motorcycles from two others.

Two robbers barged into a general store on Allama Iqbal Road in Garhi Shahu and took away cash and a cell phone.

As many gun-toting men stormed into a PCO in Hanjarwall and took away Rs5,000, five cell phones and five sims. Three robbers intercepted Shahid in Makkah Colony, Naseerabad, and snatched cash from him.

Two armed men deprived a citizen of his wallet and a cell phone at Liaqat Chowk in Sabzazar. As many robbers snatched a cell phone from Khurram at Hajwairi Chowk in the Lower Mall area.

Two robbers intercepted a passer-by near China Centre in Gulberg and deprived him of his wallet and a cell phone.

A citizen was deprived of his motorcycle in Badami Bagh.

THEFT: Thieves broke into 570-W in Defence and made off with jewellery worth Rs50,000, dresses worth Rs50,000, a computer and valuables.

Some thieves took away cash and valuables from a shop in Model Town.

STOLEN: A four-wheeler was driven away from Islampura while three motorcycles were stolen from Islampura, Township and Shadbagh areas, respectively.
