ISLAMABAD Feb 1: A convention of clerics on Thursday demanded that the government should withdraw demolition notices served on 48 mosques in the federal capital and reconstruct the buildings razed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

They also said the government should refrain from policy shift on Kashmir and rescind the recently enacted Women Protection Act.

Presided over by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the convention held at a mosque in I-8 sector was attended by a number of religious scholars including Maulana Abdul Jalil Naqshbandi, Maulana Qazi Abdur Rashid, Maulana Ataul Haq Qasimi and Syed Bilal.

The convention unanimously adopted a six-point declaration that also expressed the resolve to foil the conspiracy to pitch masses against the army.

Speaking at the convention, the participants strongly condemned, what they termed, the negative attitude of the CDA, and said the administration was deliberately trying to create chaos and anarchy whereas Ulema were sincere in resolving the issue through negotiations.

They said no action against the capital mosques or Madressahs would be accepted. The Ulema called upon the government to shun the efforts to promote obscenity in the country and instead take steps to make it a truly Islami welfare state.

Online adds: Condemning the razing of mosques and Madressahs, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmad termed students of Jamia Syeda Hafsa a symbol of respect and modesty.

He was speaking after meeting with Lal Masjid prayer leader Maulana Abdul Aziz and protesting girl students here on Thursday.

The MMA will extend all possible to the students and people must extract fear of Jihad in order to combat anti-Islam elements, he said.

“We want peaceful resolution of the issue and our objective is not to use weapons and whosoever will use weapons will not be from us.”
