HYDERABAD, Feb 1: The Peoples’ Party Parliamentarians has accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists of instigating an attack on one Mohammad Arif Shaikh who has recently left the MQM and joined the PPP, and warned that due to such activities, the MQM would be wiped out in the coming general elections in Hyderabad.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday, local PPP leaders — Usman Kennedy, Amanullah Siyal and Abdul Hakeem Qureshi — alleged that more than four dozen youngsters, presumably MQM workers and led by a union council Nazim, Israr Shaikh, intercepted their car at Nahiyon-jo-Pir and attacked Mr Shaikh who was accompanying them.

They said that the MQM activists warned them that if they worked for the PPP in that area, they should be prepared to face consequences.

They alleged that the MQM workers also tried to attack the house of a woman political activist, Seema Siddiqui, at Khwaja Chowk, who had also joined the PPP.

The PPP leaders said that later Mr Shaikh went to the City police station to lodge an FIR but FIR was not registered.
