KARACHI, Oct 19: The Sindh government is pursuing an approach of collaboration with the private enterprises and the community towards quality education and good governance at all levels in the province.

This was stated by provincial education minister Anita Ghulam Ali during a meeting with the chairpersons of the Institute Management Committees (IMCs) of polytechnics.

The main objective of the meeting was to ensure arrangements for the improvement of facilities for students and devise measures to remove hurdles, if nay.

It was stated that the IMCs were mandatory under the Asian Development Bank loan agreement.

The minister noted that although all the IMCs had not functioned to the benefit of the institutions, yet those that had done so had proved that the existence of the committees were invaluable.

It was expected that more such active people from the business community would interact with the government for mutual benefits.

Experiences and utility of internship of students in factories and business houses, future employment of skilled and on-the-job trained polytechnic graduates were discussed at the meeting.

The minister said that the principals of the polytechnics as members of the IMCs and head of institute had a critical role to play in the functioning of the institutes, judicious use of the accumulated funds and for the success of the public-private partnership policy of the government.

Project director of the Asian Development Bank and provincial coordinator of technical education will ensure that equipment was made available through bank loan for new technologies and updating of the present ones by early next year.—APP
