KOHAT, Jan 29: The slain chief of the Peshawar police — a victim of Saturday’s suicide bomb attack in Peshawar — was laid to rest here on Monday. The burial of Malik Mohammad Saad had to be postponed for a day due to the absence of his wife and son who were in the US. Their plane could not land at the Peshawar airport because of bad weather on Sunday night and it had to be diverted to Karachi from where they were flown to Peshawar in the plane of the Sindh chief minister.

Malik Saad was buried with full police honours in the presence of hundreds of his friends and officials. Floral wreaths were laid on his grave on behalf of NWFP Governor Mohammad Jan Aurakzai, Chief Minister Mohammad Akram Durrani, NWFP IGP, DIG, Kohat region, president of the bazaar union and other senior police officials.

Balochistan Governor Awais Ghani also visited the residence of Malik Saad’s brother Malik Asad and offered condolences. Iftikhar Hussain Shah, ambassador to Turkey, in a condolence message to the family of Malik Saad, also expressed grief over his death.
