HYDERABAD, Jan 25: Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Thursday handed over five modern heavy machines used to clean chocked drains to the HDA. Speaking on the occasion, the nazim said the most ultra modern machines delivered to Wasa would go a long way in streamlining the sewerage system.

HDA director-general Altaf Hussain Memon, Wasa managing-director Kafeel Ahmed, technical officer Faheem Akhtar and other senior officers of the district government were also present on the occasion.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that three urban talukas, specially Qasimabad and Latifabad, were facing huge sewerage problems where sewage was being mixed with drinking water creating health hazards.

He said that the water level had gone up in the city due to seepage which had caused damage to costly properties.

He said that the district government had imported the latest machines from America at a cost of Rs3 million to combat the situation.

He said that the machines had the capacity to cleanse pipelines of polythene bags and garbage upto a distance of 500 feet from the small lines.

He said that jetting machines had already been made available to the HDA for bigger diameter lines.

He said that only five drifting machines had been imported for the time being and if their performance was found satisfactory, more machines would be imported and provided to each union council.

WATER: The district administration in a statement issued here on Thursday reiterated that absolutely clean and contamination-free drinking water was being supplied to the residents of the city.

It said that the quality of water was being analysed after every four hours by renowned water technologist Dr Ehsan Siddiqui of the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, Sindh University.
