ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the government to produce the list of cases in which Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad was involved.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Shaikh Riaz Ahmad and Justice Qazi Mohammad Farooq, after hearing Advocate Mohammad Akram Sheikh, issued notices to the attorney general, Punjab advocate general and the NWFP AG to appear on the next date to explain the reasons for the continuous detention of Qazi Hussain.

The counsel for the JI chief contended that the court did not deliver its verdict on Qazi’s petition on Jan 28 because it was misstated that he had been released.

He said that NWFP AG had stated in the court that Qazi Hussain had been released. In fact, he was not set at liberty but was handed over to the Punjab police at the Attock Bridge.

He said that now the JI leader had been shown arrested in an old case pertaining to protest demonstration by the JI on Feb 10, 1999, in which had not been named.
