MIRPURKHAS, Jan 24: The People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), its different wings and sister organisations organised a province-wide protest campaign against Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Wednesday over his remarks against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto deemed ‘inappropriate and insulting’ by the party.

In Mirpurkhas, the PPP activists including women staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club against the chief minister and use of batons by police against PPP women protesters in Karachi.

PPP’s divisional general secretary of ladies wing Khairun Nisa Mughal, District President Haji Noor Hassan Chandio and Ali Akbar Panhwar said in their addresses to the protesters that the Supreme Court of Pakistan should take serious notice of the chief minister’s insulting remarks.

They said that the chief minister was in fact afraid of Ms Bhutto’s popularity. People would greet Mr Arbab with rotten eggs after she returned to the country, they said and condemned Karachi police for torturing PPP women activists.

KHAIRPUR: PPP ladies wing and People’s Lawyers Forum, Sukkur region, brought out a procession, which marched on different roads of the city before observing a sit-in in front of the press club.

Sukkur PLF President Liaquat Shar and PPP ladies wing general secretary Ms Bachal Kubar led the procession.

Former district nazim Khairpur Nafisa Shah and Liaquat Shah said in their addresses to the protesters that the chief minister’s use of ‘unparliamentary language’ against Benazir Bhutto was highly condemnable.

His rule had only served to aggravate the already serious problems of law and order, tribal clashes, unemployment, price hike, dilapidated roads and robberies, they said.

DADU: PPP workers in Khairpur Nathan Shah staged a rally against the chief minister.
