HYDERABAD, Jan 23: Activists of National Labour Federation (NLF) staged a four-hour sit-in outside the press club on Tuesday demanding abolition of contractual system, issuance of appointment letters, attendance cards and payment of Rs4,000 per month minimum wage to workers.

The protesters had placards and banners inscribed with slogans against EOBI and labour department, price hike, unemployment, poverty, contractual system and the government’s anti-labour policies.

Addressing the protesters NLF Sindh President Rana Mehmood Ali Khan said that the government’s treatment of workers was discriminatory. They workers had not even the rights and facilities guaranteed to them under labour laws, he deplored.

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Hyderabad President Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi said that the alliance fully supported workers’ struggle for their rights and added that it was necessary to get rid of Gen Pervez Musharraf to save Pakistan.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgri said that that the present government was exploiting the workers and trampling over their genuine and legal rights.

Jamaat-i-Islami District Ameer Shaikh Shaukat Ali, Shia Ulema Council leader Nizamul Hyderi, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Afzal Gujjar and Tehrik-i-Insaf leader Dr. Abdul Samad also lend their to workers’ support.
