MARDAN, Jan 15: Mardan district needed a medical college, university and a circular road to resolve its recurring civic problems, according to district nazim Himayatullah Mayar.

He was talking to journalists at the press club here on Monday.

He said that successive governments at the centre and in the province had ignored development in the district, creating multiple problems for people.

Focussing on traffic problems, he said that roads were too narrow to handle the increased flow of traffic, which daily resulted in congestion.

He termed traffic problems tip of the iceberg, he said they stemmed because no infrastructure development project had been taken up in the past.

Criticising the provincial government, he said that the district had paid Rs200 million in tobacco development cess last year, but the provincial government had failed to announce any major development project.
