HYDERABAD, Jan 15: Sindh Ombudsman Yousuf Jamal has termed the middleman system in agriculture as exploitative of growers and urged all the stakeholders to abolish the system which is to blame for many of their woes.

Addressing a meeting with several delegations that called on him in Tando Mohammad Khan on Sunday Mr. Jamal said that the there was no provision for middleman in the Sugar Act.

He directed the management of sugar mills and environmental protection agency to take measures to save people from air pollution and said that his management had decided to organise a seminar on "agriculture and irrigation" in February in Tando Mohammad Khan to identify core issues of agriculture sector and elicit experts’ recommendations.

He directed the authority concerned to utilise sugar cess development fund in a specified and efficient manner and ensure construction of farm-to-market roads.

The ombudsman said that he had received many complaints about the roads decrepit condition and said that the roads must be kept in good condition to help improve ecoomic activities.

CONDOLENCES: Sindh Ombudsman Yousuf Jamal has expressed profound grief on the sad demise of renowned artist Zafar Kazmi and renowned poet, writer and intellectual Ilyas Ishqi and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

Lauding the services of late Kazmi Mr. Jamal said that the country had lost a great artist and archaeologist who served the nation through his art and preserved the culture of Sindh through his paintings.

About late Ishqi, he said that his services for strengthening brotherhood among people of Sindh could not be forgotten. He always strived for promoting love through his poetry and writings especially by translating Sindhi books of poetry and culture into Urdu.
