KARACHI, Jan 14: A piano recital by young Usman Anees bowled over the handful of western classical music enthusiasts attending the performance on Sunday evening.
A small gathering consisting largely of the performer’s family and a few music buffs were treated to selections from Bach’s Klavier, Beethoven’s Sonata, Chopin’s Ballad and Schumann and Franz, Liszp’s compositions.
The most commendable was his own composition in Bmajor, titled Fantasia, wearing a flavour of Mozart.
Usman Anees started piano lessons at the age of eight and gave his first public concert at the age of 11.
He practises five hours a day and has an ambition of playing in the Carnegie Hall.
He plays with the control and effortless flow of an expert. The performance witnessed by the audience merited high applause. But while his music was high-classed, the audience were undeserving of the performance, walking in belatedly and most were either talking among themselves or on the phone.
