LAHORE, Jan 13: Protest by lawyers on Saturday against the killing of additional advocate-general Arif Bhinder disrupted traffic in downtown Lahore and created immense problems for people throughout the day.
Police barricaded all roads leading to the Lahore High Court, especially Aiwan-i-Adal on Lower Mall, which was also blocked by the protesting lawyers.
In view of the endless blocking of the roads, motorists had to use narrow alleys to reach their destinations. As the streets were too narrow to bear the load of vehicles, a chaos was witnessed in Urdu Bazar, Anarkali, Gowalmandi and in Nisbet Road, Pattiala Ground, McLeod Road, Beadon Road, Cooper Road, Data Sahib shrine, Sant Nagar, Islampura and Circular Road areas. Motorists even used narrow lanes of Bhati and Lohari gates.
Prolonged traffic jams were also witnessed around The Mall, on Lytton Road, and at Chauburji and even Mozang Chungi.
The situation created problems, especially for schoolchildren and patients. In majority cases, motorists wanted to give way to ambulances carrying patients but there was no possibility. —Staff Reporter
