TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 12: Gojra city police on Friday arrested a Khateeb on the charge of delivering a provocative speech by violating ban on use of loudspeaker at Madina mosque in Siraj Town locality. Police have registered a case under Amplifier Act against Qari Ghulam Abbass.

INSPECTOR AWARDED: The Punjab government has awarded a cash prize of Rs100,000 to a local police inspector for arresting an activist of a banned religious outfit.

Reports said inspector Syed Alamdar Husain had arrested defunct Lashkar Jhangvi activist Ahmad Ali Tagga alias Sheeshnaag. The latter was involved in the killings of 27 people in terrorist attacks, including 11 Iranian cadets, and a local Shia lawyer. He had shot dead advocate Syed Ibrar Husain some six years ago in Eidgah locality outside his residence. The accused had also killed 11 Iranian cadets in an attack on their van on Nov 17, 1997 at Rawalpindi. The provincial government had fixed Rs100,000 head money for his arrest. DPO Raja Munawar Husain gave away the prize cheque to Alamdar at his office on Friday.

BAIL: The Lahore High Court on Friday released on bail local union council No.26 naib nazim Asif Saeed and his accomplice Ghulam Meeran. Both had been arrested some two months ago when accused Asif Saeed had produced Ghulam Meeran as a witness before civil judge Khwaja Muhammad Ajmal. Meeran had impersonated as Saeed’s brother.
