LARKANA, Jan 11: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Anwar Bhutto has offered to resign if it is proven that he has met Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim during the past five years.

The chief minister is reported to have claimed at a public meeting on Wednesday that the MNA had been meeting him to get some works done.

The MNA said on Thursday that the chief minister should also step down if his claim was proven wrong.

He said the PPP was the only party of the country which had revamped the destroyed economy after 1971, brought back 90,000 prisoners of war and got freed land captured by India.

“We have been far from power for the past 12 years but we still live with our head high and the rulers’ efforts for rapprochement with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto have failed,” he said.

He said a brother of the Larkana union council-II naib nazim and an innocent villager had been killed in Ratodero while the chief minister was present in Larkana, which spoke volumes about the deteriorating law and order situation. He said the deputy inspector-general of police, Larkana, was helpless in controlling the situation.

Mr Bhutto alleged that the chief minister had suspended the Ratodero mukhtiarkar during his visit as he had refused to assist in the election of a pro-government candidate to the local zakat committee.

WORKERS’ PROTEST: The protest of the sacked employees of the Sui Southern Gas Company entered the 25th day and a batch of 20 victims continued the token hunger strike outside the local press club.

The sacked workers appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to take suo motu action against the SSGC management for not complying with the court’s orders of reinstating 652 employees. They said unemployment had pushed their families to starvation.
