PESHAWAR, Jan 10: The Farooqia Students Organisation (FSO) staged a protest demonstration in front of the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday against the reconstruction of a church in the University of Peshawar.

The provincial government has allocated Rs3 million for the reconstruction work, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani last month. A minorities’ MNA has also contributed Rs2 million for the project.

Led by their head, Saleh Shah, the FSO members chanted slogans against the government and demanded immediate stoppage of work.

They said the decision to reconstruct the church was taken without the approval of the university syndicate. It was aimed at destroying the peace of the campus, they alleged.
